I am a shade tree mechanic, and fix minor auto issues when I'm able to. I took the risk of buying a used vehicle with a "Rebuilt from Salvage" title, meaning it had been totaled out in a wreck and repaired. I wanted a shop to get it up on a lift and give it a very thorough looking over. I was going to just take it to another shop that I had used before, but when I checked their reviews, they were awful. The curious thing about it is that they didn't bother to respond to most of the negative comments! So, I searched for an alternative and ended up at BG Automotive. They did a "Used Vehicle Inspection", and I had them fix just a few of the many items that were recommended for replacement or repair, with the bill coming out to $531. If they had done everything that was advised, I am sure it would have cost several thousands of dollars. Some things I handled myself (new radiator, etc.), some I deemed as unnecessary, and some will get taken care of later. It's like my wife says, "I hate going to the doctor, because they always find something wrong!" Well, that's what I paid them to look for, and I accept the responsibility of deciding what to fix and what to let go. The major thing is that they found no evidence of damage to the frame or front end from a collision, so I feel good about driving the car. One small issue: all of the wheels had been removed to check the brakes, and when I double-checked the lug nuts, I found about 1/3 of them to be considerably over-torqued beyond the recommended 80 ft. lbs. I am told that this can cause warping of the brake rotors. It is an issue that I have found to be a very common practice whenever I take a vehicle to a tire shop, so I have gotten into the practice of just rotating my own tires, or double-checking the torque if someone else has installed tires. Overall, I had a very good experience. Matt was very conscientious about documenting the issues that were especially important to me and then communicating back with me.
