We’re here to answer all the questions regarding the serpentine belt and timing belt.

First things first, the timing belt and serpentine belt are two entirely different components . The timing belt is located near the engine, and its purpose is to synchronize the crankshaft and camshaft(s). It has rubber ribbing that is equally spaced apart to time when the engine intake and exhaust valves to open and close. In contrast, the serpentine belt is a long snake-like belt that transports power to many accessories and sits outside of the engine. Some people call it the accessory belt.

The physical appearances of the two belts are quite different as well. A timing belt has deep, horizontal ribbing. Whereas, a serpentine belt has thinner grooves that run vertically. With the increase in cars on the road, fireworks, and grills going, the 4th should be approached safely in order to have a fun and stress-free weekend. Here are some of our tips for how to celebrate safely this year:

If you're traveling anywhere by car, be sure to remember to drive carefully. There is typically an increase in vehicles on the road, and alcohol consumption makes the 4th one of the most dangerous days to drive the entire year. Be aware of your surroundings and practice defensive driving.

Without power steering, the steering wheel would feel super difficult to turn and you'd probably have some pretty gnarly biceps after years of driving. However, we have the ease of power steering which basically helps to multiply the force we use to steer into enough force to move our wheels in the direction we want them to go.

But, what is happening if our steering wheel feels loose? You may notice that you need to move the steering wheel to one side significantly in order to get your wheels to move at all, which can cause issues controlling your vehicle and make steering hard to navigate. In other words, your tires are not responding well to your turning of the wheel. Plus, there seems to be a lack of pressure that you usually notice when you go to turn your steering wheel. This definitely isn't normal for modern vehicles, and something must be amiss - but what could cause this?

While you may think that the issue is with your power steering system, a loose steering wheel often points to issues with the suspension system. The steering and suspension systems are closely connected, and the problem you are experiencing could be caused by a connecting component. Let's look at some of the possible causes of a loose steering wheel:

Worn tie rods - tie rods are the connection between the steering system and the tires. Tie rods are present is both ball steering setups and rack and pinion set ups, and can become worn over time. If the tie rods are worn, the steering wheel can feel loose and also squeak when turned.

The A/C system is actually very complex, and therefore there are a number of different reasons why the system can fail. Here are some of the top causes of A/C system failure:

DIFFERENT WARNING LIGHTS AND WHAT THEY MEAN

If you own a vehicle, you’ve probably seen a warning light pop-up on your dashboard a couple of times, whether it be a check engine light or other system warning light. Most are familiar with the check engine light and understand that once it appears, it’s time to have your vehicle inspected.

However, there are many other warning lights that can appear that represent issues with other systems in your vehicle. Here are some of the most important warning lights and what they represent:

Engine Temperature Warning Light - This symbol looks like a thermometer in an ocean. This indicates that your engine is overheating, and needs to be inspected immediately.

Check Engine Light - The most common warning light, indicating an issue with the engine.

ABS Warning Light - This symbol will usually say “ABS”. It indicates a problem with the Antilock Brake System, and will require a professional to take a look.

Tire Pressure Warning Light - This light looks similar to the shape of a tire, and indicates that one or more of your tires have low pressure. Tire pressure should always be correct, so try to get this fixed as soon as possible.

Battery Warning Light - You’ll recognize a battery symbol. This means your battery is short on charge, which could be caused by the battery itself or the charging system.
